Qtopia PDA Edition Released Under GPL
Qtopa 2.1 PDA Edition, the latest version of Trolltech’s award-winning development platform and user interface for Linux-based personal digital assistants (PDAs), is now available for download under the open source GNU general public (GPL) license at ftp://ftp.trolltech.com/qtopia/source/qtopia-free-source-2.1.0.tar.gz. Qtopia PDA is available for no cost under the GPL license.
Qtopia PDA contains a full complement of applications for business productivity, personal information management, Internet content, entertainment, and synchronization with desktop PCs. Leading PDAs such as the Sharp Zaurus are built on Qtopia PDA software, and to date, there are over 1,000 third-party applications developed for Qtopia PDA.
Version 2.1 represents a major upgrade to the Qtopia PDA software. Designed for small displays and low memory requirements, new features in version 2.1 include:

DoCoMo 投资 MontaVista
InfoWorld报道 DoCoMo invests $3M in Linux developer MontaVista 。
这家日本电信运营商投资了300万美元到MontaVista。这笔投资是这家巨头某个全盘计划的一部分，DoCoMo期望帮助乃至推动日本手机制造商们开发更多使用Linux作为OS的移动终端。
DoCoMo的女发言人Tomoko Tsuda表示这笔投资将帮助该公司与MontaVista建立更直接的关系，这样后者就能帮助手机制造商们更快地将产品推上市场。当然对DoCoMo这样的财主来说，300万确实不多。
加州Sunnyvale的MontaVista是这两年嵌入式Linux市场上的新宠－－VRTX的Ready老兄果然眼光胆识非凡，“先驱”这称呼给他是实致名归。
DoCoMo鼓励制造商们将Linux或者Symbian作为3G终端的平台。今年11月，NEC和Panasonic Mobile Communications已经发布了使用MontaVista Linux的3G终端，二者皆宣称他们将发布更多基于Linux的产品。
其他日本手机制造商比如Fujitsu则是Symbian的主要支持者，它也已经发布了一些Symbian产品。
DoCoMo在这场游戏中是什么态度呢？它已经开发了在Linux和Symbian上都可以运行的通用软件平台，该平台包括中间件，操作系统的自定义模块，样例驱动，样例应用，PC上的手机模拟平台，还有开发指导。

ClusterKnoppix 集群
IBM developWorks网站上这篇Craft a load-balancing cluster with ClusterKnoppix, Using Knoppix-based LiveCDs, build your own supercomputing Linux cluster 介绍了用Knoppix搭建集群的方法。
Knoppix是著名的LivdCD版本的Linux－－不需要安装，从光驱里启动就能运行。ClusterKnoppix是Knoppix的衍生版本，后者的所有好处：丰富的应用，run-off-the-CD，不可思议的硬件侦测能力，对多种外设的支持－－都被继承了下来。ClusterKnoppix在此基础上增加了openMosix提供集群计算能力。
其他基于CD的openMosix发行版还有Bootable Cluster CD (BCCD), ParallelKnoppix, PlumpOS, Quantian 和 CHAOS。不过ClusterKnoppix 可能是最流行的可以用做集群中主节点master node的发行版，因为：

>提供了多种应用
>采用了CHAOS的安全增强
除了建立集群的step by step外，文章还简要介绍了SMP和MPP，以及Linux集群的核心内容openMosix。

一本关于Sharp基于Linux的PDA产品Zaurus的小说《Z4CK》已经面世，作者苏格兰安全专家 Kevin Milne。这是一部时间背景在2031年的电脑惊恐小说cyberthriller。主人公使用一台具备无线功能的Sharp Zaurus为自己洗刷谋杀指控。
和’The Net’这部电影相比（有没有人记得？），这本小说对黑客技术及工具给出了更深入的描写。Z4CK 在8月份首次线上发布，头6章免费。印刷版本可以从Amazon, Barnes & Noble或者作者的网站购买。
这本书本身也是Milne用一个无线键盘在Sharp Zaurus SL-5500上完成写作的;-) 。
